Our memories are formative forces — they shape our thoughts, our decisions, our actions, and our identities. Yet a memory is not an absolute. What happens when the vessel that forms and holds our memories ages, fails, or is otherwise damaged? Who do we become then? The scientific research at the heart of these questions is the springboard for Erin Garrity-Duffey's first solo gallery exhibition. Her paintings and drawings probe the interior of the human body on a microscopic level, utilizing layers of organic, transparent forms to consider the fluid shifts between order and disintegration. In Working Memory, Garrity-Duffey approaches these glitches in our cells and minds with an inquisitive rather than despairing eye, suggesting change and disruption is just another facet of being alive.
